Thailand Adventure begins…

Finally, after what feels like a lifetime, we are off on our Thailand adventure.

Thailand Adventure Begins

Starting our 6 month Thai adventure with 2 weeks in Bangkok, and we are super excited for all the new flavours, sights and everything else that is to come.

Let’s rewind back and tell you how we managed to save, plan and book all within less than a year.

Back in 2019 we visited Thailand for 10 days and absolutely fell in love the people, food and the place itself. Although we were about an hour outside of Bangkok, we had an amazing time.

It was on that 10 day trip we decided we want to see more of this beautiful country, so the thought process was set into motion.

Now we just needed to figure out how long to go for, how much money we would need and when to go.

Bye bye uk 👋

That takes us to the end of 2022/beginning of 2023.

Realising, something drastic needed to change in order for us to save and live, so we made the decision to leave our rented 2 bed flat in Torquay, Devon and downsized to a smaller, way more affordable accommodation in Minehead, Somerset.

Very soon after the move and new jobs we quickly realised how much we could save and that we could actually make 2024 the year we live our dreams and travel.

So finally after all the months of research and planning and getting things booked, it was time to finally be on our way to the land of smiles and live the life we have only dreamt of.

Time to fly…

Thailand here we come

Being budget backpackers, we chose to fly with Etihad and have a short stopover in Abu Dhabi. Now john and I are seasoned flyers and have flown many times with various airlines, but this was the first time we have ever been surrounded by screaming and crying children. We understand all children cry, even adults cry to, but pretty much the entire flight one kid or another would not let up.

Anyway, we arrived into Abu Dhabi a little later than planned as our departure time was delayed but hey ho we got there eventually.

Finding a seat after having a wonder round and settling in for our 4.5 hour wait, i closed my eyes and must have nodded off as the next thing i knew it was time to board our next flight to Bangkok. Thankfully this flight was a lot quieter and we both managed to get a little sleep.

The meals onboard were pretty similar to each other, was ok and edible. One thing that made me feel super uncomfortable like i was being a nuisance was having to call the flight attendant over every 20 minutes or so just to have a drink, as they only give you small cups, no cans or bottles. So if you drink a lot then i definitely advise bring your own drinks from duty free with you.

Destination arrival.

Lamphu house Bangkok

Yay! We arrived safely into Bangkok and are greeted with that wonderful face full heat!

We had pre arranged with a friend of ours for a lift to our hotel, which was lovely to see her and it was also nice to have someone knowing where they are going.

After locating our hotel we headed to the nearest 711 for a little something to eat and some drinks to tide us over until the morning when we really our Thailand adventure.

Thanks for getting to this point, stay tuned to read all about our adventures and what advice we can give to you if you are planning on your own Thai adventure. Until the next time,

Hazel & John @chasingthedream-hj
